Maia meets Layla in a café and listens as Layla describes a weekend retreat on conscious connection. The teaching arrives entirely through their dialogue — a picture of aliveness that prompts Maia to question her own assumptions.
In Essence
Layla describes guided practices that felt safe and free: sharing circles and hugging-meditations — fully clothed, with clear rules and a safe word. A long, silent hold with Dorian left her breathing through her heart centres, rediscovering her own capacity for connection. The retreat gave a name to the warm, golden light in her chest: *Luma*.
She talked through it all with Pascal before going. She came home more present, more herself. She calls Pascal her main, home-cooked meal — a different flavour does not mean the meal is lacking. Telling Pascal about Dorian was not a confession but a sharing. He admitted a fear of jealousy, yet he is more afraid of her dimming her light for his comfort. It is an experiment in trust.
Maia mirrors the idea back through her own conditional fears. What if she liked it? What if it changed her?
