Nils Klippstein’s case for relationship networks instead of the exclusive couple bond — and for the honesty, consent and skills that make such networks safe. Told as a teaching novel: each chapter’s story is followed by plainly stated teaching. At its core: the guilt around wanting more than one loving bond is inherited from centuries of control, not a personal failing.

Summary

Exclusive-couple monogamy is a historical construction. Lawmakers, emperors and popes built it over centuries to secure control, property and inheritance. The guilt many people feel about wanting more than one loving bond belongs to that inherited system, not to them.

In its place stands the Network of LOVE: several caring connections sharing the load a single partner is otherwise expected to carry alone. The bonds are held together by honesty, consent, individual allowances and boundaries and a shared commitment to each other’s wellbeing.

The model runs on learnable skills — heart-centred communication, emotional self-regulation, boundaries, jealousy worked as a team, conflict repair, shadow work, compersion and rituals of reconnection. Good feelings need good grounding. The story follows Maia as the idea reaches her, meets her fear, and takes root in her life.

Chapters

  • ch-00-foreword — the full foreword, unabridged: the inner voice after the last traditional breakup, and how the search for the new way began
  • ch-01-a-different-glow — Layla’s retreat story over café chai: the glow called Luma, a hugging meditation with rules and consent, and the cage of shame Maia hears in her own fears
  • ch-02-the-inherited-order — the named builders of the one-partner model, and the scripture passages in their traditional and different-perspective readings; the shame around non-exclusive bonding is inherited, not personal.
  • ch-03-why-live-like-a-potted-plant — a potted plant against a mycelial garden network: no single partner can always meet every emotional and sensual need, and LOVE is abundant rather than scarce.
  • ch-04-breathing-love — Maia’s first glow: a held, consensual practice by the pond, something deeper than romantic attraction, and guilt walking beside it all the way home
  • ch-05-a-new-honesty — two confessions in a dark kitchen; the freedom vow, radical honesty and radical trust, with the most intimate union kept as their space
  • ch-06-the-blueprint-takes-shape — the skills list begins: honest communication, self-regulation, allowances and boundaries, jealousy as a team sport
  • ch-07-shadow-work — Mark untangles jealousy from envy and meets an older wound; the network as a mirror, and Chloe offered as a connection of his own
  • ch-08-plans-and-expectations — Mark and Chloe’s spark, the Thursday crash over shared time, and the daily heart-share as the network’s steady heartbeat
  • ch-09-surrender-and-honesty — complete transparency after an evening with Chloe, Maia’s surprise jealousy, and the Planning Pause
  • ch-10-becoming-we — one heart-share, one hugging meditation: jealousy and joy as coexisting visitors; non-attachment and compersion as learnable skills
  • ch-11-safe-exploration — boundaries agreed before, consent lived in the moment, and the Reconnection Ritual after; integrity and unlearning close the skill sequence
  • ch-12-networks-of-love — the closing essay: two plants in a pot against the garden ecosystem, connection beyond ‘just friends’ or ‘romantic lovers’, and LOVE met from the inner centre
  • ch-13-a-few-days-that-change-everything — a few days at Finca Sanuela: the book’s themes met in person — shared presence, heart-centred practices, honest conversation, guided exploration

Key ideas

  • Exclusive monogamy is an engineered legal and religious institution, not an emotional or biological given.
  • Shame about wanting more than one loving bond is a historical inheritance from patriarchy, not a personal failing.
  • A single partner cannot realistically be best friend, cheerleader, therapist and lover at once; a network spreads that load across several connections.
  • LOVE is abundant: LOVE given elsewhere is not LOVE taken away from an existing bond.
  • Jealousy is the main obstacle, rooted in old wounds and fear of not being enough; deeper work on it belongs to the later title, Love Beyond Jealousy.
  • The Network of LOVE model depends on honesty, consent, individual allowances and boundaries, and a shared commitment among its members.
  • The model runs on learnable skills and practices — heart-centred communication, self-regulation, jealousy worked as a team, repair, compersion, reconnection rituals — not on willpower alone; good feelings need good grounding.
